TL;DR
Rick Allen, a long-time resident in Delphi, Indiana—known as a devoted husband, father, brother, and son—is now serving a 130-year sentence for a crime the prosecution was unable to find any physical or digital evidence connecting him to.
Despite growing concerns about investigative errors, prosecutorial and judicial overreach, the trial court has continued to withhold a substantial number of exhibits from the public in violation of Indiana's Access to Court Records. A select group of journalists were granted only 15 minutes per day to inspect limited materials during trial proceedings.
Mr. Allen has a reached a critical juncture: the direct appeal. The Brief was filed on December 17, 2025. His appellant attorneys have indicated that ten of the issues they will raise involve constitutional rights violations. The Brief is currently being reviewed by the Indiana Court of Appeals Clerk and will be filed when that task is complete.
The cost of Mr. Allen's wrongful conviction are currently estimated at $4.2 million dollars. A to-the-point breakdown of the evidence used against Rick and the issues plaguing the prosecution and trial court can be found here.
